Who would have thought that cancelling camping plans at the last minute would have been so enjoyable?

We were due to leave on Boxing Day but in the run up to Christmas, with all the hurrying about, the baking, the unsuccessful eBay snipes on camper stretchers and car roof pods, with the mounting heat and dire predictions about traffic jams and packed out camping grounds, it all just got too stressful and complicated.
Thank you God that we hadn't booked and paid in advance.
Christmas week came and we slept, watched movies, ate and bummed about. Then came the weekend. An impromptu barbeque with some of our closest friends. The next day, a trip to the Northern Beaches to visit a different church with close friends who are moving there, a delicious lunch followed by tea and dinner with great friends we hadn't seen since early 2012.

While we are the church service we heard about a New Year's Eve service and both of us thought, why not? We couldn't think of a better way of ringing in the New Year than thanking God for the old year, giving him our dreams for the New Year and asking him to put on our hearts his dreams for us.
Our amazing friends (you can see how covered in awesomeness they are in the photo above) sent us a text on Monday saying that they would babysit the kids for us if we wanted to go and see Les Miserables and then go on to the service afterwards. Needless to say, we leaped at the chance!
What an unexpected privilege to see in the New Year in the House of God! How amazing it is to be encouraged to Dream Big, to dream with God and to be anointed and have our dreams prayed for for the year to come. What hope it brings, to celebrate the start of a new year with the family of God, to bury the person we were in 2012, to leave our disappointments and sorrow behind and to start afresh, to know that God is good and that he as amazing adventures and plans for each of us in 2013.
Happy New Year! May you dream big and have amazing adventures with God in 2013!
