Holidays: Day 20: Temperature Rising

It's a going to be a hot day today.  44 Deg C.  Dry weather, hot wind blowing in from Australia's red centre. It's like holding a match in front of a blast of hairspray.

We're hiding out in a lovely valley, dog sitting for friends who are on holiday.
Problem is, it's in a zone categorized as Catastrophic Fire Condition Zone. There's a total fire ban.

We have instructions.  In case of fire, proceed to the evac point, the Showground with dog and three laptops. We know where the hose is, we have iceblocks in the freezer.

We had a call on the answer machine last night from the Rural Fire Service warning us.

It's the first time we've ever been in this situation.  The news is full of bushfires ravaging Tasmania and displaced peoples, people on holiday abandoning their cars and just getting home as quickly as they can.

Fear and nervous thoughts scatter like seeds blown by the wind, taking root wherever they land.  Firefighters are on high alert, hoses at the ready to put out any and every fire.  And me, I am putting out anxious thoughts with verses like these.

Ps 91:1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

v4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Phil 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God,which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
