Beautiful mind-blowing nature

A St Andrew's Cross Spider that has been sitting in our garden for the past 10 days.
God's creation is extraordinary.  I didn't dare get closer to this baby.  Although I know they are harmless, as I inched the macro lens on my phone closer to him, his thorax rose.  It could have been the wind blowing his web but I wasn't taking any chances or doing any repeats.
Little Bun and I found what looked like an ordinary black crow's feather on a walk this morning but when we turned it over it had a wonderful green and blue lustre to one side.

I'm amazed at the regularity and symmetry of lines, the way they are hooked together and are a natural memory fabric.
The details on this little gumnut are incredible.  I am loving the macro lens for phones.  It gives an almost 3D depth to photographs. The place I was taking these and the sunshine meant that I couldn't see where the focus was going or whether it was even focused until afterwards.  I need to play around some more.

It blows my mind that we are one planetary speck in a speck of a galaxy among billions of others, zooming around the sun which dwarfs us and yet there are details like litchen on a gumnut, hooks on feathers and brightly coloured spots and stripes on the smallest of spiders.

Ps 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.

Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Even more mind-blowing is that this God who created all this wants to spend time with us.  As this author puts it: we are the bit part actor with a role of 2/5th of a second while God is the main character, yet for some reason, he cares about us.  He picks us out of a crowd, forgives our rottenness, our overblown ego and he shows us more kindness than we can ever imagine, he pursues us with relentless love and keeps picking us up out of our disasters.  Our minds should be blown by him. We should ask ourselves:

Ps 8:4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?

What's bringing you a sense of awe today?

  2. Agreed on the spider bit - that thing looks like it could be vicious! It is crazy how small we are. I remember having it explained as we and our lives are a speck on a very large line (continuum if you will), yet no matter how small that is, He still loves us very deeply.
